yes of course it's stuck in the past because that's the point. it's the same with hundreds of medieval festivals or events with ancient Roman it Celtic or Nordic themes. in part all of those are trying to be historically correct, in a large part they are modern interpretations of aspects of that history trying to highlight the positive sides of this. it's basically in the tradition of the romantic era.
