It's a western philosophy ingrained by basically the only major animation being Disney for a long time. Unfortunately we've only started to see the increase in considering animation as a medium, and it'll take a generational shift for the "but animation is for kids" lot to stop being involved.

OMG I'VE ALWAYS SAID THIS you cannot compare a movie like toy story to the movie of south park for example only because they're both animation, there's a clear difference in animation media and it always pissed me off the degradation of animation staff in the local media as if they were not as important as any other (but then they have to do live actions to have the opportunity to compete with it)

Theres no reason that Chainsaw Man the Reze Arc shouldn’t have been at the oscars. The animation, voice acting, and score was some of the best i’ve seen in years.
