@Lenny | Swipe Era: I genuinely believe our education system is missing something important.🤔🤔🤔
We spend years preparing people for careers and academics, yet very little time is spent teaching healthy relationships, emotional intelligence, communication, boundaries, red flags, self-worth, and how to recognise emotionally healthy versus unhealthy behaviour.🙏🏾
I am aware that PSHE and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) are taught in schools, and I’ve looked at the syllabuses. While they cover some important topics, I don’t believe they go deep enough or receive the same level of importance as core subjects. If these skills are truly fundamental to life, they should be taught more thoroughly and consistently much like Maths and English so people develop a deeper understanding of themselves, others, and healthy relationships.🤔
Yet so many of society’s struggles are deeply connected to relationships: heartbreak, loneliness, toxic dynamics, mental health struggles, family breakdowns, and emotional trauma. Technology has changed relationships rapidly, but emotional education hasn’t evolved at the same pace.
Relationships shape individuals, families, children, and future generations. We place great importance on teaching people how to earn a living, but perhaps we should place equal importance on teaching people how to build healthy lives, relationships, and communities. Maybe it’s time we started treating emotional education as important too. 🙏🏾🤎
