Andrea went from a registered nurse with a bright future to a woman who was called “evil” and a “beast” after she confessed to drowning her five young children in the bathtub. At trial, the prosecution’s only expert witness presented evidence that turned out to be incorrect, then argued it wasn’t crucial to the conviction… despite the fact that it was leaned on to show that Andrea was faking mental illness to get away with an insanity plea. Andrea was eventually re-tried and found not guilty by reason of insanity, in a rare successful and uncontroversial use of the defense.
