The us definitely doesn’t have an entire genre of panel shows, that’s fairly uniquely British. But we did have ‘whose line is it anyway’ which I think is absolutely a panel show without that terminology. It’s essentially mock the week sans current events.

Panel shows are great and I would love them to come to America, but I have no idea what type of US celebrities would be on panel shows. There’s a kind of willingness to be humiliated that we struggle with.

I still think of it broadly as a panel show. It's a show with a structured competition where winning doesn't really matter because the comedy is the point. It's a half pre-recorded/half on-stage unscripted panel show. With a game show, the game is the entertainment. With a panel show, the comedy/banter is the entertainment.

I love panel shows. QI, Would I lie to you, and Big Fat Quiz are my favs. I honestly wish they were better at using YouTube because I have to find places to watch them because their YouTube channels just post clips or old episodes.

why i personally say i DO count TM as a panel show, is because i think it shows us the potential that panel shows can have, they don’t have to all be boring nonsense talking about who can spell the longest word with a bunch of random letters, we can talk about nonsense that was previously shenaniganed and make even new jokes from said shenanigans
