@doctorazmain: UK HEATWAVE: 9 dead (6 teenagers) from drowning in open water. ↪️ SHARE this - it might save someone's life. 💬 COMMENT if you or someone you know has been affected by open water dangers. 👉 FOLLOW @RNLI who save lives from the sea every day. 👉 FOLLOW @DoctorAzmain for more health education. My heart goes out to every family who has lost someone this week. This is devastating. Some of you mocked my previous video about the dangers of swimming in open water during a heatwave. I get it - it feels counterintuitive. It's boiling outside. The water looks refreshing. Nothing bad has ever happened to you before. But in a sudden heatwave, the air heats up almost instantly. Rivers, lakes, and reservoirs don't. Open water in the UK is still around 10-15°C right now - winter temperatures. When you jump in, your body goes into cold water shock. Blood vessels slam shut. You gasp involuntarily. Your heart rate spikes. Even strong, confident swimmers can drown within seconds. Open water also hides currents, debris, and sudden drops in depth. There are no lifeguards. No swimming lanes. No bottom you can see. It's cooler today - but temperatures are returning to 31°C on Thursday. Please stay out of open water. Use a paddling pool, cold shower, or supervised lido instead. If you or someone near you gets into difficulty, don't panic. Float on your back, control your breathing, and call for help. This is the RNLI's Float to Live advice. 🔴 RNLI: rnli.org - please support them. ⚠️ DISCLAIMER: This video is for educational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for personal medical concerns. If someone is in difficulty in open water, call 999 immediately. Bring back outdoor pools and free outdoor kids camps. There is nothing free for teenagers to do. People are always going to try and swim we need to be like other countries and encourage life guard courses and volunteer life guards

I’ve had people arguing with me that “the sea warms up through the day” or that it’s colder in the mornings. People need to realise it won’t be warm until at least end of June/mid July.

The UK heatwave feels more intense and stifling than the same temperature abroad due to higher humidity, poorly ventilated building designs, and a lack of nationwide air conditioning.

I recommend buying a small children's paddling pool and sitting on a chair next to it with your feet in the water
