Lecturer here - I’m sure that sometimes egos can be involved but I have to say this doesn’t reflect my experience at all. I oversee misconduct hearings in my department and 1) we never bring students up for it unless we feel we have no other choice; 2) we actively hope that we’re wrong; 3) we try hard to frame questions to give students every opportunity to help themselves out; 4) even if it transpires misconduct has occurred we try our best to create opportunities for students to share anything else that’s been going on that’s led to the misconduct and explore whether there’s any support we can put in place to try and ensure the student doesn’t feel like misconduct is the best/only option in the future - very often in my experience other things are going on that lead to misconduct and my goal in these meetings is to understand this first and deal with any potential rule breaking second - we’re not all horrible!

Strongly advise to save your work to the university one drive and first save it on that and only have it saved on that so that you have a strong constant evidence that you wrote that or at least it’s authentically written aka by a human the second is that you know your resources really well and keep them backed up and saved use systems like mendely that saves the resources to your account if done correctly so that you have a long list of resources saved

When I do my reading before an assignment, I save all of my notes electronically (so they're date stamped to show they were created before the assignment was handed in). I also save my drafts separately so I can show the writing process (so rather than do one draft and edit it, I paste it into a new document and edit it, then save, and repeat until the final draft). I'm paranoid about getting flagged for AI because I'm a mature student and the writing style I was taught at school/college is the same style ripped off by AI

Last meeting my supervisor said: what the f*** . Although I was arguing evidence-based arguments. He didn’t ask about evidence, he said this phenomenon doesn’t not exist, and said wtf!! I have meeting tomorrow with student advice

Nah this was such a stressful moment in my life 😭 we were working in teams and were allowed to discuss the work together and had to present individual work. Got flagged because me and my team’s discussion section was ‘too similar’ 😭 obviously we were not charged with academic misconduct in the end

As a chair of academic misconduct, I agree with the advice largely. Would add to familiarise yourself with the essay as often panels will hold a viva on what was written. But sadly most students go in totally blind. Plus the evidence I put them is usually pretty damning….
