I mean, those classics are classics because they stood the test of time, it's survivourship bias, all the mearley good or ok art will be lost in time one way or another. But like you said, great art comes directly from the source, from deep within and has the courage to not overly rely on contemporary tropes and clichees and will be probably be seen as a bit too odd, too weird at first. I think all great art, classic art, has something weird and unconventional and this strangeness seperates it from the mereley good art that is technically also brilliant, but too "clean" and safe.
