The problem I have with speed bumps is you can’t go over them at the speed limit. Which defeats the purpose of the speed limit. If I have to cut my speed in half to go over it, why not lower the speed limit.

speed bumps genuinely need to be banned, if the speed limit is 25 i shouldn’t have to slow down to 8mph to get over it, also they create a hazard for longboards and e-scooters

I'd rather anything other than speed bumps, honestly. Not just because they're obnoxious to drive over even at the signed speed, but because I imagine they're noisy for residents in the same way a loose manhole cover is noisy. Slowing down and speeding up isn't ideal either, one due to fuel inefficiencies and two (again) because of noise from the engine revving to get back up to speed. I'd much prefer designs that enforce a consistent safe speed, like road narrowing.

I grew up on the main road in my town (US19), and they recently put in chicanes. 1000% no one abides by them. People just drive straight through the curved parts (like splitting the dog fence and driving across traffic lines). And the chicanes took away the safety zone between the road and the sidewalk, so now the cars go whizzing past RIGHT next to your head. Stupid application, at least in my town’s use.

Some speed bumps are also just poorly made. On Union ave in Chicago there are some that force you to slam on the brakes and go about one mile per hour over them, and near my mom’s house in California there are some that feel better to drive over going above the speed limit.

As long there is a warning sign at legal distance it should be good otherwise having a speed bump without any warning can cause more damages than you trying to prevent because the person will never take a speed bump that he knows that exist at full speed

if they were properly maintained with good reflective paint and a proper sign, I like would them. but almost all of the ones in charlotte are almost invisible especially at night
