@nate.b.jones: Replying to @DPC Central I think we need to stop judging every new tech by a straw man standard like hungry kids—I have personally lived through a decline in absolute child poverty of ~70% in my lifetime! So we can absolutely solve big problems as a species and still do the boring adult stuff like use computers more efficiently lol
When new technology is being adopted, it depends a lot on the imagination of the users. When the internet first started showing up in the average person's home 80% of the web traffic was adult content. People dislike AI because were seeing what the early adoptors (corporations and tech bros) are doing with it. Once AI is widely accepted and understood amazing things will be created by the imagination of the users.

The issue is these technologies are supposed to be so revolutionary, but we’re not using them to end wars or solve wage inequality. In fact, AI is making war even more deadly and ensuring the poor will get even poorer and making the middle class disappear. Spending trillions so you can have more free time is not a valid argument in favor of AI.

tbe problem with AI now is the token, why spend token, AI is scam , teaching peiple to depend with token , adding burden to prople. in future employee eill havr to invest in token for them to work, company will not spend token for all.employee but they will force emoyee to use AI that inthink possible outcome in future,

This is not just new technology being adopted for productivity efficiencies being gained through automation. This technology is going to upend our economy and our society and our culture and not in a good way.

I think the guys comment is less directed at Nate’s content and more as a reaction to the general pool of content generated by a bunch of people who are using AI as the newest topic du jour for relevance in the algorithm. Nate’s takes on AI in society is ridiculously nuanced, thoughtful and dare I say…optimistic.

The comment is classic zero sum game thinking often deployed by those mired in a collectivist mindset. Economies have a habit of growing and innovating because they are organic things made of sentient human beings. The collectivist/centralized authority impulse always seeks to hang on to the cheese forever frozen in that moment. Because of the compute and power demands of AI we are already seeing a forcing function on water consumption vis a vis heat generated by the large data centers.

"Instead of feeding kids"?
The entire economy is based on how money moves.
If the baker buys a $10 steak from the butcher, then the butcher buys a $10 suit from the tailor, then the tailor buys a $10 cake from the baker, all three now have a $10 increase.
We NEED the wealthy to spend like crazy in order to feed those starving kids!

Role modelling it as breakthroughs that ends up feeding hype driven narratives that ends up draining the oxygen from worthwhile projects…. Is a problem. Only within your bubble that is self feeding on hype is this anywhere near impressive.
