control panel doesnt hit you with a 500MB update every time you open it, and the driver updates? I'm not gonna sit at my pc waiting for 15 mins to get a feature that I will never use for a game I'll never play which just so happen to be new 60-80€ triple A slop releases I wouldn't get even if they were free

Ah yes, the classic “modernization” move. Step 1: make a lightweight control panel everyone likes. Step 2: release a bloated app nobody asked for. Step 3: users avoid it because it eats RAM, runs background services, collects telemetry and occasionally tanks performance. Step 4: remove the old panel entirely so people are forced onto the app. Amazing coincidence. Nothing says “premium GPU experience” like needing 14 processes and an account login to change anisotropic filtering.
