past evidence says its not contagious but i once had it and it spread to my girlfriend. there is need for further research into its contagiousness and the theory of infectious-allergy in its pathophysiology. Some people get it after eating fish.

my derm told me it's not the lack of showering, it's my skin being too moist. was told to make sure to really dry myself properly after showering and to avoid sweating/wipe down the sweat. I still get it on some summers but otherwise after trying to stay dry more I've been peachy

I have it too. It turns a dark brown in the summer. Sometimes it can be red.It fades in the winter. You have to use anti dandruff shampoo on it. Mine does not bother me at all. So I just ignore it.
