In the US "excuse me" means "I'm sorry" etc. but "excuse you" means "you need to apologize to me"

in my area of the uk excuse me is perfectly polite. it can be impolite if you take a certain tone with it.

midwest here, "ope, let me squeeze by ya real quick" is the polite version of excuse me (rude if you dont say it) but "excuse you" is being rude 😅
