I just finished watching The Polygamist on Netflix, and honestly, I don't think there was a single winner in this story. Jonasi created a life built on secrets, and while he may have believed he was providing for everyone, the truth is that his decisions left behind pain, confusion, and broken relationships. Even after his death, the people he left behind are still dealing with the consequences of choices he made years ago. What struck me most was how every character was both a victim and, at some point, contributed to the situation. The wives were hurt, betrayed, and forced to live with difficult realities. Some stayed out of love, some out of hope, and some because leaving wasn't as simple as people think. The children are the ones I felt for the most. They inherited secrets they didn't create, tensions they didn't cause, and emotional wounds they didn't deserve. Sarah's story was heartbreaking, but she wasn't the only child affected. Every child in that family had to navigate a complicated reality shaped by adults. The documentary also raises uncomfortable questions about polygamy, power, honesty, and accountability. Was the problem the polygamous lifestyle itself, or was it the secrecy, manipulation, and lack of transparency? That's the question I kept asking myself. For me, The Polygamist isn't really about marriage. It's about the ripple effects of deception.
