I’ve been living in Madison for about a year & someone recently told me that the Midwest is 5 years behind in fashion. I too am the most dressed up person in the room when I don’t try to be.

try being Native American on your own ancestral land, very rare 🥲 but check out Devil’s Lake! that’s the best beach imo and only 45 min away, lowkey the Madison beaches aren’t the best for swimming. welcome to wisco girl! I’m in MSN too 🫶🏽

If you want to still travel to Aruba or Turks from the midwest, I highly recommend flying out of O'Hare. Stay in a hotel near the airport the night before your flight. There are hotels with free parking while your gone. Aruba is a direct 5 hr flight from Chicago. :)

I moved here from Auburn, Al about a year ago. Let me tell you the food here does NOT compare, but if you’re looking for BBQ from back home, you’ve got to try Papa’s BBQ in Monona! It’s a food truck & he’s from (I think Mississippi) it’s so good and a great price!

You're not far from devils lake and like an hour and half from Milwaukee... mil has a lot of culture and history...and Wisconsin dells is pretty cool...but the food in Milwaukee over the food in Madison any day my opinion lol Milwaukee is way bigger and more real I feel

Welcome to Madison! I love it here! I left for a few years and moved out to the east coast. but wanted to raise my family back in the Midwest. tips, Madison beaches are best early, but with farm runoff they get yucky late summer. go to Devils Lake to swim and hike or climb. Definitely hit Wisconsin Dells. stores are yuck! And boring, def go Chi for clothes! hit the town of Gelana IL for Christmas hallmark movie downtown. It's beautiful and so much Fab Architecture! ok that's a start! Have fun! and don't be afraid to ask a stranger for directions or suggestions for food on your travels. Midwest nice is an actual thing! A friend moved here from Cali and couldn't belive how long it took her to do errands because everyone does small talk here. lol

Also can’t speak highly enough about La Crosse WI! I’ve been here for 9 years and there are so many hiking trails in the bluffs, it’s on the Mississippi, it has such an amazing downtown and much more. Only about 2.5 hours from you!!

If you don’t want to drive in Chicago, I recommend driving to Harvard, IL and parking at the train station there and then taking the train into Chicago. But you’re used to Atlanta traffic so Chicago traffic probably makes you feel back in your element 😂

Welcome! Skip the lakes here….the lakes are algae ave weed filled and not great. Better off driving to Lake Michigan and drive to Lake Mills, or other lakes you can buy that are cleaner

Hi, I can relate! I’m from tx and i had the same culture shocks! I miss my Latin community back home, but loving the slow paced environment. I still haven’t had a chance to travel outside of the Madison area but I’m excited. I’ll have to check out that mall, thanks!
