In 1973, coming off a legendary career at the University of Minnesota, where he starred in multiple sports, Dave Winfield became the first athlete ever drafted by four professional sports leagues in three different sports. The San Diego Padres took him 4th overall in the MLB Draft. The Atlanta Hawks grabbed him in the 5th round of the NBA Draft. The Utah Stars picked him in the 6th round of the ABA Draft. And despite him never playing a single snap of college football, the Minnesota Vikings took him in the 17th round of the NFL draft. To this day, Winfield appears to be the only player ever drafted by four different sports leagues.
