I can finish a 100 pages novel in like 3 hours & remember all the detail in the plot but I can't understand a 10 pages paper in an hour 😭

There was one paper I read for my candidacy exam that took me 3 days. 3 full work days to get through. Not for the faint of heart lol

I have the same exact issue. It is my biggest struggle with my Ph. d so far is the literature review/search, etc.

Printing them out is absolutely the way to go! Plus, you get the visual representation of how much knowledge you’ve gained when you look at the stack or the drawer full of papers!
