Not how branching works. A branch grows outward from the end piece. You cut it off it stops growing that direction. But new shoots may spawn further down the branch. You can control it through cutting off budding offshoots early from places you don’t want off shoots, and cutting the tips off existing shoots when you don’t want them to get longer
