My brother applied to Petco, he’s 19 and has 2 years experience in retail. They wanted to start him at $8 an hour. That is not a living wage. Yes most retail/fast food places in Texas pay over minimum wage, but not by much. Heck, I make well over minimum wage, and I rent a room out of my parents house because I can not afford to live solo in the area where I work and I can not spend 4 hours a day commuting to and from. I’m not a teenager, I have a lot of experience and good references, so I can get a higher paying job. I think of all of the 18-19 year olds that are fresh out of high school and are kicked out of their parents home or aged out of foster care and have no choice but to accept the $8.00 job and thats all they get. That being said, what does raising the income standards do if the price of living rises right along with it?

Minimum wage jobs are not meant for adults providing for a family. I had many minimum wage jobs in high school. Guess what I wanted more out of life so I paid for college with my own money. Sure it was difficult but that’s what I did. Struggle is a part of life. Want more go for it.

but most companies dont start off at 7.25 they could but they know they wont be able to hire anyone...I am a hiring manager my company started off with $11 and hr...then i would get people saying minimum wage i went nope actually thats 7.25 a hr...you are getting way more...and its 2.13 a hr if you work for trips but you dont.

In TX, about 100k ppl make minimum wage. Of that, 20k are under the age of 18. So, 0025% of the population makes minimum wage. It is not an issue
