Every AI tool has a lifecycle: 1. Vet the tool before purchase, 2. Monitor it while it’s being used, 3. Watch for drift, bias, privacy risks, and hallucinations, 4. Retrain or update policies as needed, 5. And eventually retire or decommission the tool safely. A lot of organizations focus on adoption, but not oversight. The real risk is what happens after implementation. Good AI governance asks: Who owns the tool? What data is it using? How is it monitored? And when does it get shut down?
