I mean, Witch is just "evil" side of him/inner shadow and throughout the movie he chosed between good (Aslan) and bad (White Witch). His captivity by the Witch was a form of self-torment — it was his subconscious punishing itself for the guilt and inner pain. Metaphorically, there is no Narnia - Edmund went through it all by himself, just like a person in real life. He went through egocentric behavior and self-hatred to finally open his heart to the world.
