That controlled touch is incorrect because it leaves the ball too close and unprotected from the defender. It would be better to shield the ball with your body to prevent a possible steal.

They are not pretending the poles are defenders😭 why are the comments stupid? They’re just practicing first touches on the ball. The defender could be running at them from the side/front so they turn back to pass the ball to their own defensive line or moving the ball to the other side of the field to hold possession.
