@aspace2write: Many writers feel daunted when it comes to writing the middle of their stories (also known as Act 2). You know how it starts, you know how you want it to end, but you can’t clearly see how the story’s middle should play out. I'm going to help you by explaining basic three-act story structure to illustrate the purpose behind your story's middle so you can better understand the role it plays in your story as a whole. I will then take you through different options and strategies for planning what needs to happen in the middle of your story, as well as common mistakes writers make in Act 2 and what to do about them. You will learn how to flesh out your story, how to generate and maintain tension, what to do to make the middle of your story as interesting and engaging as possible, and how to ensure you never run out of things to write about in that pesky Act 2. #writingtips #authortok #learntowrite #novelists
my issue is i have the main scenes already structered in my head.. but the linking sceans always are the hardest.. i mean i mostly get bord and tired of thinking how to link the bone sceans and mostly end up not writing a word for a couple of days.. or weeks.. because of the pressure i feel even though no one is pressuring me but myself

Its weird how beginnings and endings can feel so easy to structure and write, but the middle is so difficult and wooly. —— In my head, I have to split Act 2 into two more manageable chunks. I like the 2A-2B idea. Then I can feel like Im aiming toward something. —— I started to look at ACT 1 as Intros and Setup that ends in a point of no return that results in a world change. ACT 2A as a series of attempts to win that fail because of the wrong ideas, ending in a point of no return that results in a POV shift. ACT 2B as a series of attempts to win that fail despite the right ideas, ending in a low point of no return, resulting in a full understanding of what needs to be done. ACT 3 is about resolutions where the protagonist consolidates their experience and throws the kitchen sink at the problem is the exact right way, resulting in a climax and loose ends being tied. —— Now, I dont know how accurate that really is, but it helps me as a compass point to follow for that difficult middle.

Hi I want to thank you for your content delivery and heart. I really appreciate watching your videos. Although I believe I have a good act 1&3 I sometimes hurry through parts of act two. I realize have to let the part marinate a bit longer while bringing the same passion to the character.

My main issue is tense 😫 I think in multiple tenses constantly so I write in a mix of all three 🫠

Thanks so much for posting about this! I'm beginning to write a novella and I'm having this issue. Would it apply to a shorter length story?

I realised part way through that my third act is a books worth of material on its own - so now my act 2 is my ending of book 1. Any tips on managing my new middle and the ending of my new final act? 😅
