@technooptimist: Claude Code Inventor Boris Cherny: "Do you see in the future building software becoming a skill like I know Microsoft Office?" "Oh my God, yes, yes, yes. I think it's going to be even more than that. I think it's going to be, I don't know, it's going to be a skill like, yeah, like I know how to send a text message." "In tech history, there's one thing which I think to me is the clearest parallel for what's happening right now. And this is in the 1400s, the printing press. Before the printing press, essentially 10% of the European population was literate. They were often employed by kings and lords that were not literate. And their job was to read and write." "And in the 50 years after the first printing press, there was more literature published in Europe than in the thousand years before. And over the same period, the cost of literature, the cost of a book went down like 100x. Over the next few hundred years, literacy globally went up to like 70%." "I think the thing that's about to happen, and it's going to be much faster than 50 years, is software will be a thing that is fully democratized, that anyone can do. The best person to write accounting software, I think maybe even today, is not an engineer. It's a really good accountant. Because they know the domain really well, and coding is the easy part. It's knowing the domain that's the hard part. And I think this is just obviously the future." — Boris Cherny of @Claude interviewed by Sequoia partner Lauren Reeder at AI Ascent 2026 #claudecode #anthropic #sequoia #borischerny #ai

Claude code became expensive... I never use to reach my session limit..now one prompt takes 25% of my session limit... time to change...😏

Wrong... printing press is exact opposite of AI (or rather LLMs). 1. Printing press was making less mistakes than human - AI will always make more mistakes than human. 2. Printing press was a one time cost of buying it - AI is paid per token or usage limit, prices are very high actually if you really want to make a good software product. 3. Printing press was not owned by few companies that make them - AI is mostly marketed and made by few corporations that only want more money, not to make better living for people. 4. Printing press was easy and cheap to make - LLM is very expensive to train. 5. Printing press was cheaper than writing books by hand - building real, medium size software products is already more expensive than coding the same thing by hand and still AI companies need to rise token prices, because they are still losing money on it.

Exactly, as a financial analyst i use python and c++ for complex tasks. I understand python but i dont understand c++. But AI helps me in that part and i can easily build models and simulations

I don't remember the printing press requiring tokens to be used. but hey, maybe free models will bring about the change he's envisioning

Printing press are a great comparison but “as easy as sending a text” is not. It is a tool that eliminates almost all blockers, but we are at the “I don’t need to hand write a book” phase and not yet at the “turns out not everyone is a good author” phase. No question many many more people will be enabled that previously were unnecessarily blocked, but the dismissal of engineering skill is surprising. The printing press doesn’t by itself make you a good writer, it just makes it easy to crank out books, which is valuable for good writers.

I agree with building software but how come ai won’t know domain? I mean all the business logic for every financial sector should be same for e.g. if I want to create a new credit card of my own will ai not know about it ?

They can because they have infinite token we cant because we have to pay for it and its not cheaper. If you build loops it finishes out context gone. He is just selling claude.
