we set up an irrevocable trust, 3 years ago, 2 more years left so that if something happens, Medicaid pays it all. the home is mine.,they can't touch the home.

I went through this w my dad but he passed before he could get Medicaid. I was shocked how this country has nothing for sick seniors. Medicare does not pay for any nursing home. Medicaid will but they will take your house like u said.

as a hospice social worker this needs to be taught everywhere ! it’s so sad when families realize that medicaid will in fact take their assets when they are needing full time care. get an elder law attorney and plan early!

My mom died and she had money hidden under the mattress. Literally. And now I know why. She had been slowly withdrawing all of her savings for years before she got sick and eventually died.

Transfer of deed upon death. That’s what my lawyer advised us to do when my husband was diagnosed with Cancer. Medicaid denied my husband-until he died - then they approved him when he passed- they paid the hospital bill. knowing he owned a house. What they didn’t know was that I had already filed a transfer of deed upon death with the tax office. So, the deed was automatically transferred to my name only. Luckily…My lawyer already knew the process.

We took care of our parents, never left them at nursing home, they worked so hard for us most of our lives so we took care of them when they needed the help.

Buying a home can be a little scammy when u think about it. Then add retirement on top of that with rising taxes and insurance plus healthcare. It all sounds like a nightmare

as soon as my house is paid off, I'm selling it to my kids for $100.00 so they have it in their names. I did get a ladybird deed in case I kick the bucket before it's paid off

my mom and my in laws put their property and assets into a trust so this doesn't happen. still doesn't fix the medicade costs but keeps the house and assets so they don't take them

My parents put their assets jointly in my name so they can’t take it. That needs to be done 5 years before anyone is put in a home. Or a trust!
