South Africa's problems stem from corruption, and corruption alone, at every level of government, from ministers to the civil service, the judiciary and the police. That is what is making ordinary South Africans suffer. Not the person running a business. Not the person showing up to do their job. Those people are not the problem. The problem sits squarely with those in power and how they have chosen to use it. What makes it worse is that South African politicians have become extraordinarily skilled at deflecting that blame onto other ordinary people, turning them into scapegoats while the real sources of failure go untouched. It is a classic political manoeuvre, and tragically, it has worked.
