In the original it was worth it as it was the ultimate weapon but in Lost Chapters yeah wasn't worth it neither of them were that good actually.

yes they have same stats....but the Sword of Aons is one handed....and the Sword of Avos Tear is two handed....

funny enough after u beat the arena u get access to an area that let's u buy the strongest sword in the game ita two handed and pretty much can 3 hit some od the tougher npcs
