Joey just comes off as a smug know-it-all elitiest and it turned me off his content not to mention his undefeated streak of horrible takes. I used to watch his content when I was younger but grew out of it pretty quickly when I realized I did not enjoy his content or him as a person anymore.

i think his intellectual compass is guided by whatever is contrarian. he’ll say condescendingly that youre missing his point if you have any critique of him. i think he became a public figure too young & grew up seeing himself as an authority in the anime space so he stopped growing & learning long ago.

honestly it's because he got lucky with one of the first people to blow up talking about anime back on YouTube in the early 2000 to 2010s. and because of that he has the grandfather clause in the community so people feel like he's an authority figure on the matter when really he's not not with his terrible takes which I've always been there
