I was raised in this culture, and can attest that being transparent and direct is labeled as rude. It took me a lifetime to learn that “politeness” is code for handling other people’s egos carefully, or in other words, proving that you can play nice with others even if you think they’re dastardly or unethical. ‘Playing nice’ is prioritized over being honest and direct. 😢

I already made mistakes that’s why I understand each word. So the classes it seems are: Low (raw honesty), Middle to Low High (kind, nice, polite) then Upper High switches again to raw honesty.

Yes it was a cultural shock. Didn’t fully capture this until my mid 30s. Looking back I can point out all the times people lowkey looked down on me etc but it went right over my head

I also experienced this. I also observed that disingenuity roots where sabotage and retaliation are high. Basically, if there is a lot of insecurity around you, you can’t be authentic.
