Disclaimer: Yes, I usually DO charge extra for details even when it comes later during the sketch process, if my client chooses the detailed sketch. -- However, for personal comms, I try not to charge more if the details are my ideas, not theirs. It's NOT because I shouldn't charge more. It's because I CHOOSE not to. I don't want to do it when people just want to admire the characters they love in my style. They can't make profit out of it anyway. -- For this clip, my client only told me to freestyle the accessories and I thought that the detailed one suited their character better, so I didn't charge extra. If someone requests a detailed accessory like this from the start, I sure will add the extra cost in the proposal because they specifically request it. -- AND I always charge extra if it's commercial use. It's not greed. Details means extra work and I will always inform my clients about this condition and re-discuss about the budget before I finalize my artwork. -- Artists don't live off nothing. They all have bills to pay, food to buy, and more responsibilities like everyone does. They should get extra payment if you decide to have more details in the comm art. They can't keep producing artworks for you continuously if they can't even survive the world.
