Same thing just happened to me. Vacuum to waste. Shock it, let the pump run, Let it sit for a day. Shock it again if no chlorine holds. Then vacuum to waste again. Keep chlorine in it.

We have a 33ft above ground round pool, my biggest dread and challenge is removing the cover every year. We pump off what we can before taking it off but hard to get all and then maneuvering the cover off.

I vacuumed on waste, had to added a little bit of water , but found out the hard way that it’s the best solution.

We use a sump pump to get all water off the cover then remove it
