Amazon just shipped a payment system where humans aren't required, and almost nobody connected the dots. On May 7, 2026, Amazon, Coinbase, and Stripe shipped a product called Bedrock AgentCore Payments. Autonomous AI agents can now make real-time purchases in USDC, no bank, no card network, no human in the loop. Settlement happens in about 200 milliseconds on Base or Solana. The first version covers API data feeds, MCP servers, and paywall content. The expansion plan covers hotel bookings, travel, and merchant payments. Here is how it works. The agent encounters a paid endpoint. It gets back a 402 payment required response. AgentCore handles the x402 handshake, signs the stablecoin payment, and delivers proof of purchase. AWS just skipped Visa, Mastercard, and the entire correspondent banking system with one product launch. Warner Bros Discovery is in the early tester group. They own CNN, HBO, and Discovery Plus. They are testing AI agents paying for individual articles, individual videos, individual API calls. If an agent can pay sub-cent for the specific CNN article a user wants summarized, the $15-a-month subscription bundle is structurally obsolete. USDC has cleared roughly $55 trillion in lifetime volume. Visa's annualized stablecoin settlement was around $45 billion in January. The AgentCore launch could pull the USDC run rate to $100 trillion or more within 18 months. The three most powerful companies in cloud, payments, and crypto just agreed on one settlement layer for the AI internet.
