Some walls are already peeling, yet the client will still ask you to paint them without doing any maintenance first, especially fences. So when you see a painter working without proper preparation or maintenance, it doesn't automatically mean they don't know their job. People need to understand that the client has the final say. A painter can only advise; the client ultimately decides what they're willing to pay for.

Everyone keeps talking about primer, but most clients aren't willing to buy it. They'll usually ask you to paint without it. Even the few who agree to use primer often don't want to pay the extra labor cost, even though painting with primer is not the same as painting without it. You all talk as if painters never work without primer, but are you the one paying for it when the client refuses to buy it?
