I really don't know about this situation. As a person who has worked retail for over 40yrs. We were told to never chase of follow anyone outside the store.

I’ve worked retail at many different places from 15 - @26 and every store had the same policy. Never chase anyone because you don’t know if they can hurt you. In fact, at places like Old Navy we were told you could get fired for doing it.
