but burdock taught her loads of songs that weren’t necessarily appropriate for the context in which she learned them. she had no business singing the hanging tree as a kid lol but she did. also! when she’s in the capitol and finds her voice again at the end of mj, she starts to go through the whole catalogue her dad taught her, «hour after hour of ballads, love songs, mountain airs». i think it’s definitely reasonable to assume he’d teach her the old therebefore too.

Apparently in the books Lucy sang Deep In The Meadow to someone else and Snow was the only witness and so that’s why he was bothered when Katniss sang it to Rue😭 FAWK bruh- (i read this in another comment section while going down the rabbit hole abt burdock and the covey mourning song)

Okay so the song definitely originated in the Covey HOWEVER it was sang at Haymitch's families funeral who are NOT Covey it definitely just became like a district 12 thing..... Rue asked her to sing and Katniss probably wanted to sing her a lullaby to calm her

I think she knew it, but didn’t know its meaning. He taught her a lot of songs, but since they didn’t sing publicly he probably didn’t teach her when the time was to sing them.
