I'm African American and I've always taught my children that we respect each other's privacy. If I ask my children to get something from my purse, they will - but for whatever reason my son is never comfortable rummaging through my purse. It's never been something my children have gotten in trouble for doing or not doing. I think it's a case by case thing

I’m African American and a woman. I was never allowed to go in my mom’s purse and neither was my brother. We had to give her her purse.

Maybe it’s a regional thing. I was raised in NY and I never heard of this. I had no rules regarding my sons going into my purse and neither did my mother.

I dont go in my mom's purse...my sister's purse...my daughter's purse...NEVER!!!! When my mom died I was going through her things. I left the purses for my big sisters to check.

I am East African(Somalian) and I would also refuse to go through someone's purse even with permission. I would just bring the purse to you, that's how I was raised.So it could just be how his family raised him. Even people from the same culture can have different family upbringing, every home is different.
