I always thought the idea of the demons being the spirits of the nephilim actually makes sense, since fallen angels aren't the same thing as demons, as the angels have bodies and demons do not. also, the nephilim being neither fully man nor fully celestial, them having nowhere to really go after death and being left to wander the earth with a hunger and thirst that is never sated kind of checks out as far as I can tell. but it could be completely wrong too. fun stuff to think about and kick around either way.
