@bryceennitravels: Have you been to the old town of Rhodes? The city walls of Rhodes Old Town (Medieval City of Rhodes) were primarily built and developed by the Knights Hospitaller (Knights of St. John) starting in 1309, on top of earlier Byzantine fortifications. The walls today are about 4 km long, with towers, bastions, gates, and a moat — a superb example of late medieval/early Renaissance defenses. They are a UNESCO World Heritage site and changed little after the Ottomans took over in 1522. #rhodes #castle #medievalcity #History #greece
