in houston it is way better to find a spot where the owner will allow you to pop up for free. markets are a rip off even for exposure. (speaking from 10 years in coffee here in houston)

Generally, houston is better at understanding business taxes than most cities in the Midwest (and I’m from Cleveland) so yes, most events are just a write off for companies. It sucks for single entrepreneurs like myself but houston is definitely a pay to play city.

I’ve def been experiencing that with my floral business as well. It’s very annoying. There’s no way you can expect me to be a sponsor, completely for free! Even if it’s a free event, atleast pay for supplies or something. I’m not willing to do everything for free, and I guess that’s why my business hasn’t gotten off the ground yet smh.

My events are to raise capital for my non profit educational program and the vendors keep all their profits — they only pay the vendor fee and they even get a raffle ticket to win a gift card ; my team and I support and uplift all women owned businesses here in Houston !! 🥰 Sorry for what you’ve been through

It’s horrible, lately I’ve been getting requests to “ be a sponsor “ in exchange for “ content “? And in this economy, immediately NO especially if it’s an outside event. You’ve charged people $50+ for this event and you’re expecting a free beverage service ?! Prepping and supplies are not free.

It’s a Houston thing! They have reached out to me as well to do events for free lol. We are opening a studio and even the vendors I have reached out too for free events we are throwing… I’m not charging them for an event I asked them to come too’ makes no sense 🥹

There’s a shop in third ward on almeda next to that green vegan restaurant that has a $25 vendor fee any day of the week. Good foot traffic over the weekend

as an event coordinator and vendor host.. trade show host. its because there are so many vendors who actually offer that. if someone is selling at my event.. they are paying a vendor fee. cause they will nake money. now if im booking someone to provide services free, im covering all.
