He’s a murder.” That’s how the family of 24-year-old Heather Thompson described her father as he was sentenced for killing his own daughter. In January 2025, Heather got into an argument with her father, 64-year-old Franklin Thompson, about smoking inside their home. During the argument, Franklin shot Heather seven times, killing her. He left the home without calling 911 and Heather’s body was found by her younger sister, Maddie. Franklin was originally charged with murder, however the prosecution agreed to a plea deal in order to avoid a trial. The family backed this decision in order to not further traumatize the family, most notably Maddie. Franklin was sentenced to 14 to 19.5 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter.
