I've never understood this. My best friend an I bought the same dress, unbeknownst to eachother and just couldn't help but laugh at the cooincidence. Its a dress. Nothing to ruin a friendship over.

My bestie and I accidentally bought the same dress. She was stoked and thought it was hilarious. I ended up switching only because she is way hotter than me and I didn't want to feel self conscious since her wedding was first. She even offered to share her veil. Friends don't let a dress get between them. We are still tight 17 years later.

IMO This is along the lines of “claiming” baby names before you’re pregnant. If BFF really wanted that specific dress, she should’ve already chosen it, but you don’t get to call dibs on an entire dress style and ban everyone else until you get around to choosing.

Grandma picked the dress out! I'm sure grandma didn't see friends X list! So many dresses are similar with slight differences. She tried on a dress, felt all the feels! She shouldn't be denied that happiness because friend was "thinking about it, maybe, but it wasn't her favorite style". Also, if she's having more of an elopement and only a handful of guests, what does it matter?! It's not like everyone attending will be the same at both events. NTA.

Nah you can’t claim 3 dresses. Sorry. If it was the dress she chose then yeah don’t also choose it. but just having it as a maybe isn’t good enough for OP to have to be expected to not pick one of them.

I went dress shopping with my sister/bff for hers & she went a couple yrs later for mine. We went to same store & have similar tastes, they picked her dress for me to try on. lmao We thought it was beautiful but familiar, I chose similar fit but different style & fabric. We didnt realize until later

People forget that unless you’re getting a custom wedding dress, there are quite a few other people walking around the planet in the exact same dress as you. Instead of this being a funny memory where best friends are so similar they pick out the same dress they made it into something to fight about which is just sad.

Op was planning first. Her friend started speed running her planning long after OP was engaged. The dress thing seemed unintentional. The friend expects OP to have constraints but then friend says she doesn’t want to have any constraints. Or am I misunderstanding?

I’m also curious so the BFF is planning a wedding is OP her made of honor? She keeps calling BFF MOH but not in the traditional sense. If BFF isn’t having OP as the maid of honor their definition of the friendship are two completely different things. OP sees BFF as BFF but BFF doesn’t see OP as BFF and it is hard to realize this in a friendship.

NTA since OP isn’t having a public wedding I see no problem with her picking the dress and even if her BF picked the same one, no one at her wedding would know about it. It would be different if they shared guests at their wedding

I think this is the first time I have ever disagreed with candy thunder. 3 dresses is a big deal when it comes to the wedding dress of your dreams. I would’ve been so upset if someone told me I couldn’t have gotten my dream dress that I had forever dreamt of because they saw it first… I could have cared less if that was also my friends dream dress… that may be a me thing but I know I was never going to be the only one wearing the dress I wore and I wont be the last. If my best friend wanted the same dress, hey girl we have great taste!
