@krugerconstruction: I’ve been using magnets to find studs for years so this makes complete sense • This is the @kregjig magnetic stud finder with a laser • It has a level to make sure that laser line is plumb • First thing I did is put a level on that laser line to make sure it is accurate and it is. • You can find it in the Amazon affiliate link in my Bio.

You're assuming the screw you chose is in the center of the stud. you would likely have to take more than one measurement.
