🦵Knees over toes isn’t just a skiing or skating concept - it’s all about balance and where your centre of mass is over your base of support. In skiing or skating, if your bodyweight gets left behind your feet, the skis or skates can slide away from you. The joints stop absorbing force efficiently and balance becomes unstable. The same thing happens in a rider’s half seat. In half seat, your balance point is not your heel - because your heel is not actually in contact with a solid surface. Your base of support comes through the ball of the foot into the stirrup. That means your bodyweight and joints need to stay balanced over that point. When riders get left behind the movement and the knee drifts too far back: - the stirrup gets pushed forward - the lower leg swings ahead - riders brace or grip - shock absorption through the ankle, knee and hip reduces Keeping the body balanced more over the ball of the foot allows the joints to work like suspension and helps the rider stay with the horse’s movement rather than against it. This is why good half seat is about balance and biomechanics. Topics like this are explained in detail in new my new online Riding Ready program coming soon. #riderbiomechanics #riderphysio #riderposition #ridingexplained #ridingready
