My great great grandmother owned a walnut orchard. She was married 6 times. All of her husbands "went out for milk" and never came back. The walnut orchard still exists and I drive past it and wonder....what's buried on that property?

My grandmother wasn't allowed to go to school past 8th grade. She raised 9 girls...all 9 got an education, 2 have a PhD. I am one of 16 granddaughters...all 16 of us have college degrees.

My mother-in-law once pulled me aside and stuffed a couple hundred dollars in my hand with a finger to her lips. She said “you should always have your own money, then you never have to ask for what you need.” Mind you, she barely speaks English. She had practiced saying this so that she could pass this message to me. While it was a lesson I’d learned as a child, I still appreciated the effort that it took for her to do that gesture.

My grandmother divorced from a toxic marriage, after 55+ years together. Everyone was against it, oh you’re too old, push through. They wanted her to live miserable til the end of days. She stood on ten toes, I supported her through it all. She’s been happily divorced for the past 4 years. I’m so proud of her. 🥹
