Yes, in old Arabic some words like “قرأ” could have different meanings depending on context, and even “قرأت الناقة” was used in a specific linguistic sense.
But in the verse “اقرأ باسم ربك الذي خلق” the context is completely different. It was the first revelation to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and it clearly continues with learning and knowledge: “علم بالقلم، علم الإنسان ما لم يعلم”.
So here “اقرأ” means read/recite and receive revelation, not “deliver something new.”
Also, the message of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was not something unrelated or new in belief, but a continuation and confirmation of the message of earlier prophets.

Muhammad Zubair Raja :
Iqra" means "Read." If we continue reading the verses, Allah says "Who taught by the pen" and "taught man what he did not know" (Qur'an 96:4–5). The context of these verses is clearly knowledge, learning, and education. Therefore, interpreting "Iqra" in a way that ignores the emphasis on learning and acquiring knowledge does not reflect the full context of the passage.

Iqra is an Arabic command verb that directly means "Read!", "Recite!", or "Proclaim!"At its deepest level, it represents the pursuit of knowledge, enlightenment, and the human duty to study and understand the world.

Among the miracles of the Quran is that a word or verse has a plethora of meanings which are all true depending on different situations… the words of Our Rab cannot be exhausted… that’s why when translating the Quran you have to say “Allahu Ahlam” Allah knows best
