THIS!! That's why the advice "You need to bring your readers inside the brain of the POV character to make them closer" advice? I will always take it with a grain of salt because spoon-feeding my readers is the last thing I wanna do.

Give your readers the freedom to guess wrong and find out the truth later. As long as that truth is real and worth the wait, they'll thank you for it.

100% agree. I like a bit of mystery. It’s what keeps me turning pages. I recently watched a video of a developmental editor changing passages, and she added too much explanation in my opinion. For example, one passage hinted to a backpack being important. She insisted on explaining why it was important & all of the character motivations in that moment. Some of her advice is good. That’s why I watch her videos, but I disagree with that writing style

I always think about how this kind of stuff is probably why people have 200k+ word novels. Like everything is spelled out for the reader because there’s no trust in them to figure it out on their own 😅

as a reader justifying action is my favorite part if it's done with voice but yea if it's the author telling it's just boring

I always look at it like character is not going to think..... I can't go back because of the things that happened all those years ago. Because he/she already knows that. The reader will just have to figure it out by context clues because it will eventually be revealed.
