No, the sap makes it big time harder to bloom. Also it benefits by being kept from aphids

My first year with 2 peony plants that bloomed on third year from a rootball. One has 3 blooms and the other 4. Hope next year they'll have at least twice the blooms.

Thank you. Have zero ants on mine and blooming just great. But one of my favorite memories of my mom is her working on her peonies — darn near 50 years ago.
