They use untreated wood and then when they’re building it, they just leave it all open and everything and it rains and there’s humidity yeah that’s a recipe for a mold, unfortunately

We own an HVAC company outside of Houston. Over the last few months we have spent literally every single day at different homes in a very popular master planned community. All the homes we have serviced are under 5 years old. Every single one has such severe mold issues they need full HVAC replacements. Its awful and breaks my heart for these home owners.

As a Realtor and also someone who grew up in a house ALWAYS under renovation…..this is why buyers and owners NEED to look at their projects at the end of every day. Be present, take pictures, do not get screwed over. This is horrendous.

Restoration contractor and licensed mold inspector/remediator here. I have been telling builders for YEARS that they need to update their building practices. Everyone still drops lumber and frames going into winter as if we are still building with dimensional lumber and CDX. We aren't, its all BCI's and OSB and you cannot build the same way in the same time frame with that material. Builders need to drop lumber and frame late spring early summer, finish the exterior shell, and do interior in fall/winter. I remediate brand new buildings alllllll the time because builders just haven't take the hint. All that said, this is outside the norm. OSB will mold significantly faster than dimensional lumber and I only see mold on the framing so my guess is this sat framed and wet for an extended period of time and then when the weather changed they came and did the sub siding and wrap.
