@mtn.alice: 🌜Craters of the Moon🌛 Walking on volcanic terrain makes you think a lot of about time, history, and ancestry 🌀 The Shoshone people have called this area home for over 12,000 years, which means they witnessed centuries of volcanic activity until the landscape became dormant around 2,000 years ago. Many of their orally preserved and passed down stories reference these eruptions--the very same ones that shaped the geology we walked upon this weekend. When you walk on the fragments of these ancient eruptions, it's hard not to feel the intertwine of humanity, landscape, and survival! The other thing I loved about Craters of the Moon is that it's one of the most ADA accessible areas I've been to in a long time! Their website has a terrain and slope breakdown of every single trail in the area. Some of the most easily accessible trails are the North Crater Flow trail, the Devils Orchard trail, and the Snow Cone trail. Craters of the Moon is really flexible in the sense that it's relatively easy to plan any itinerary ranging from one hour to a full day, and still have loads of fun!

this might be silly but do you need to get a permit for the caves in advance or through the visitors center?
