Why do people move to a metropolis and then rely on a car

we all want less traffic congestion but drivers don't like the changes that address that. I hear you that it's now a bit more annoying to navigate your neighborhood, but trust, you will adjust.

Everyone’s acting like we’re living in LA? Like you saw the sun for 5 min and forgot what we live like for 8 months of the year? You biking in -25 degrees?

If you insist on relying on a car then you need to reassess whether it’s appropriate for you to live in one of the densest neighbourhoods in the country. Walking, biking, and public transportation have to take priority.

I’ve been living in the area for 6 years and I can’t stand the changes. The transit lane on Bathurst and the one lane on Portland it’s fucking ridiculous. It actually makes traffic congestion worse but they think it helps 🤨

That was such a horrible intersection. On weekends especially it would be backed up the whole night. They needed to do something to fix it. With the park there and the one building a historic building there is no option to change the intersection other than something like this to make traffic flow better

Sidewalks are overflowing with people at night. This is necessary especially in the summer

Most large cities have predominantly one way streets. Toronto was a relatively small city with two way streets but is now a gridlocked large city. Part of the solution would be more one way streets downtown with more bike lanes.

It is hostile to cars and it is by design. If you rely on a car to go to work you should consider moving out of the area. Yeah, it sucks for you but it is a good thing for the city

The city is not designed for cars, bicycles, pedestrians or public transport. Worst designed city

with all the people who need to take transit, walk, and bike they need to take priority because that is the most efficient use of the space and frankly there are and can be way more people moving that way. The 504 king Car moves 90k people per day, which is more than entire cities transit systems in the US (Seattle's light rail moves ~120k ppl per day, for context). The king pilot banning turns and straight movements instantly grew transit ridership and got folks out of their cars and reduced congestion on king for users. it won't kill you to spend a bit longer in a car, or going around a few extra blocks, similar to transit riders or cyclists who are restricted to specific safe streets with lanes, you just need to plan your trip and your route before you leave and leave extra time.
Toronto has way too many people to efficiently move by cars and the only way less people will be inclined to drive and cause congestion is giving them safe and efficient options to where they need to go, and making cycling and transit similar in time to driving (where again you have air conditioning / heat, entertainment, a comfortable probably heated seat etc.) this design is also great because emergency vehicles can use it both ways due to the width of the mobility (bike/roll) lane, and folks in mobility assistance devices can also roll with their wider devices like electric wheelchairs, even when the sidewalks are packed

As someone who drives to work everyday from downtown but also loves being able to walk places and spend time exploring, I really don’t see why this is a “big issue”😭 it may be a slight inconvenience that could add 5 minutes or so to your drive to get out of your neighbourhood, but like- you have google maps. You’re acting like it’s this huge task to figure out how to get on the highway when it takes 10 seconds to figure out with your phone and plan accordingly😭

That street is a mess most of the time anyway , full of cars with single individuals sitting in them. For bikers , this is a great thing.
